A gold vein inside the Phoenix Gold Mine in Idaho Springs, CO. It is veins like these that miners try to follow still to this day. 15% of gold production comes from nuggets. 85% of gold production comes from veins like this. They chip the rock out, crush it all the way into a fine powder, separate out the copper, silver, and gold from the rock using water gravity filtration, then finally melt at about 2100 degees the gold/silver/copper mixture. Gold forms at the bottom, silver in the middle, copper on top. This is where gold bars come from. #gold #silver #copper #goldmine #PhoenixGoldMine #IdahoSprings #silverthorne #SkiSilverthorne
